The Leaving Song Pt. II

Don't Waste your touch, you won't feel anything. Or were you sent to save me? I've thought too much. You won't find anything worthy of redeeming. Yo he estado aqui muchas veces antes y regreso. To break down and cease all feeling. Burn now what once was breathing. Reach out and you may take my heart away. Imperfect cry and scream in ecstasy. So what befalls the flawless? Look what I've built. It shines to beautifully! Now watch as it destroys me. Y regreso aqui otra vez y comienzo To break down and cease all feeling. Burn now what once was breathing. Reach out and you may take my heart away. Break down and cease all feeling. Burn now what once was breathing. Reach out and you may take my heart away. I left it all behind and never said good-bye. I left it all to die. I saw its birth. I watched it grow. I felt it change me. I took the life. I ate it slow. Now it consumes me. Break down and cease all feeling. Burn now what once was breathing. Reach out and you may take my heart away.

This song to me, represents a highly religious aspect. To me, this song is just basically "Terrible Lie" by Nine Inch Nails, gone Punk, and AFI. Poking through the lyrics and taking them into extreme meaning, I shall site examples. "Don't waste your touch, you wont feel anything, or were you sent to save me? I've thought too much, you wont find anything, worthy of redeeming." This is Davey talking to God about him attempting suicide, explaining that there's no hope in getting through to him and his mind, but knowing it's God, he's asking if he's come to attempt saving him. Then he comes to say that he's thought alot about God, and now denies his existance, and that he can't take him to Heaven due to his denial of God and Heaven all together. Then Davey speaks in spanish which in the first part translates to "I have been here many times before and return to.." That somewhat explains itself, he's tried talking to God before only to realize that he doesn't exist or believe God can save him at all. Then the chorus comes in "Break down, and cease all feeling, burn down, what once was breathing. Reach out, and you may take my heart away." Once again Davey is talking to God saying he's now going to kill himself, cease all feeling, and burn his life away. Then he proceeds to tell God to reach out and send him to his destiny. Now the 2nd verse comes in. "Imperfect cry, and scream in extasy, so what befalls the flawless? Look what i've built, it shines so beautifully. Now, watch as it destroys me." This in my opinion is the most powerfull part of the song, he's basically throwing the non existance of God in God's face. He says hes cut himself and is ready to die, imperfectly crying, and screaming in joy ready to meet his end which he may believe to be Hell. He then proceeds to ask God what befalls him and if he will die, beings God is a flawless perfect entity supposidly. Then Davey says "look what i've built it shines so beautifully" he is refering to adapting to a religion and creating a God for himself, and worshipping its power and beauty. "Now watch as it destroys me." This is basically Davey blaming God for his attempt at death, due to the undenyable factual saying "God decided it was his/her time to go." He then talks in spanish again, which translates to "And return here again and begining.." He's now saying that God is basically returning yet again, attempting to take his life. Then the chorus takes its place again, with the same meaning. After the chrous Davey says "I left it all behind, and never said goodbye, I left it all to die." This proves my point of the songs basic meaning, suicide and or death. As per the meaning he says that he left God behind and never said goodbye to him, turned his back on him if you will. God now at this point represents not only God, but hope. He left his hope of living behind as well. He also, left God/hope of survival, to die. Davey now says "I saw its birth, I watched it grow, I felt it change me. I took the life, I ate it slow, now it consumes me." This sums the whole song up. "I saw its birth, I watched it grow, I felt it change me." Meaning, he saw the birth of God in his eyes, he watched it grow through a chosen religion. And the religious belief in God changed him. "I took the life, I ate it slow, now it consumes me." Meaning, he took the life, meaning he embraced the belief of God and his hope of Heaven. "I ate it slow." Meaning he ate it slow, we now see that Davey has wanted to die, so he has attempted suicide many times, eating away at his chances, slowly. "Now it consumes me." Davey dies, now it consumes him, Daveys number has come up, God has killed him and consumed his life. Then the final chorus sets in, and this is all about his relived death. He broke down, and killed himself, ceased all his feeling (died), burned what once was breathing (yet once again, died), now he's telling God to take his soul, if infact God exists. There you have it, the meaning in my eyes, of "The Leaving Song Pt. II" Somewhat of a deep meaning.

I noticed something when I was flipping through the interpretation pages. In the Leaving Song, Pt. 2 there's this part in the middle where a girl is talking in the background, (turn the music up and you'll be able to hear her well)..... Look what I've built, (please don't do this...) it shines so beautifully! (why won't you look at me?) Now watch as it destroys me.... Would this have any effect on your interpretation or the other commentors'?? I think it probably has to do with a girl he told about his intentions of suicide and now she's worried because this is probably the last time he'll be able to talk to her because he intends to die soon.

This is about Davey talking to God about suicide. The first line is "Don't waste your touch you wont feel anything, or were you sent to save me, I've thought too much, you wont find anything, worthy of redeeming." This is Davey telling God not to bother with trying to make him stop his suicide, or feel needed, because he now realizes it's useless. Yet it being God, he wonders "were you sent to save me?." He then realizes it's all a lie, God can't save him, and tells him that he's thought too much about himself, and God...then doubts that he has a soul, and then denies the existence of God and Heaven all together. Thus telling him, he can't redeem his soul, because he hasn't got one to take. He then says in Spanish "Yo he esta-do agui muchas veces antes y regreso" this means "I've been here many times before, and come back." So, all together the chorus is saying "Ive been here many times before, and come back to..break down, and cease all feeling, burn down what once was breathing, reach out, and you may take my heart away." What this is saying is that Davey has been in this state of suicide before and is once again returning to it to break down, lose all hope in life, burn down his life and cease to feel. He then tells if not that BEGS God to reach out, and take his life from him. Next verse says "imperfect cry, and scream in ecstasy, so what befalls the flawless? Look what I've built, it shines so beautifully, now watch as it destroys me." This is stating that as he attempts suicide in whatever way, he is screaming in joy, but imperfectly, because nobody's perfect. (I'm guessing he cut his wrists or something.) He then asks what befalls God because apparently God is some kind of flawless being. He then speaks on God by saying look what he's (Davey) built it shines so beautifully, watch as it kills me. Thus all referring to God and his suicide. Now the next chorus hits, with the Spanish of "''Y regreso aquí otra vez, y comienzo" which means, "And I come back again, and start" so now the chorus is "and I come back again, and start to break down, and cease all feeling, burn down what once was breathing, reach out, and you may take my heart away." This basically means the same thing as the above chorus only this time it means he is once AGAIN trying to kill himself, etc etc. Now Davey says, "I left it all behind and never said goodbye, I left it all to die." This is Davey talking about God, saying he left God behind and never said goodbye, beings he denies his existence now, knowing he can't save him, only to die in the end. In the next verse Davey says "I saw it's birth, I watched it grow, I felt it change me. I took the life I ate it slow, now it consumes me." Davey is now talking about God...yet again, he is saying "he saw the birth of God, he watched it become more important to him throughout his life, and it changed him, made him believe in God. He embraced God and made him apart of Davey, now God is only killing him." Finally the chorus hits again, this time without any Spanish, and it basically means yet again the same thing, but it's greatly possibly that Davey dies at the end of this song, because of what he says beforehand.

From personal experience, I think that this song is not in anyway related to suicide... It's about searching for something untouchable, and nearly unfindable. Say for example, someone is looking for love, they're trying to find it to cover up loneliness. I think this is about searching for something to cover another emotion.
