Silver and Cold

I, I came here today. But I left here in darkness. And found you. Found you on the way. And now it is silver and silent. It is silver and cold. You, in somber resplendance, I hold. Your sins into me. Oh my beatiful one. Your sins into me. As a rapturous voice escapes. I will tremble in prayer. And I'll beg for forgiveness. Your sins into me. Your sins into me. Oh my beautiful one.Light, Like a flutter of wings. Feel your hollow voice rushing. Into me. As your longing to sing. So I, I will paint you in sliver. I will wrap you in cold. I will lift up your voice as I sink your sins into me. Oh my beautiful one. Your sins into me. As a rapturous voice escapes. I will tremble in prayer and I beg for forgiveness. Your sins into me. Your sins into me.Cold in life's throws. I'll fall asleep for you. Cold in life's throws. I only ask you turn away. Cold in life's throws. I'll fall asleep for you. Cold in life's throw. I only ask you turn. As you seep into me. Oh my beautiful one. Your sins into me. Oh my beautiful one. Your sins into me. As a rapturous voice escapes. I will tremble in prayer and I beg for forgiveness. Your sins into me. Your sins into me. Oh, your sins into me. Oh my beautiful one. Your sins into me. As a rapturous voice. Escapes I will tremble in prayer. And I beg for forgiveness. Your sins into me. Your sins into, your sins into me. Your sins into me. Oh my beautiful one.

To make a long long story short, I think this also is about death, and embracing it. But not because you want it, but as a sacrifice. Davey sacrifices himself for the sins of another in this song. When he says "I fell asleep for you" I think sleeping symbolizes death. He then in the chorus begs for forgivness but later is aparently denied it, and ends up dying (falling asleep) for the sake of another.

I believe this is about davey meeting god...now don't think I call AFI a Christian band cause there not but I believe god and religion has a lot to do with AFI. The first sentence is about him being angry and dark and he found god or jesus. And its kinda like gods like "your sins into me oh my beautiful one" because he's one of gods beautiful creations and daveys reply "your sins into me? As a rapturous voice escapes I will tremble a prayer. And there more evidence in the interlude thing. God tells davey he will fall asleep for davey and he ask him turn away as his sins seep into him.

Hey, I think your interpretation is great, but let me tell you what my friend and I ended up thinking about the lyrics of Silver And Cold...We thought it's about someone (maybe Davey or not..) having a child, and finding out he loves that kid more than anything else, because it's his flesh, his blood, you know. So, I don't think Davey is a father ? But...Like when he says : I came here by day, but left in the darkness (his mom's "uterus" -- and oh sorry I speak French usually so..) and found you on the way..." That's about the birth. "but now, it is silver and silent, it is silver and cold, you in sombre resplendence, I hold.." That's as if he had lost contact with the baby or something like that..And the chorus of course : "Your sins into me, oh my beautiful one.....As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer, and I'll beg for forgiveness.." Like, the sins into him is a metaphor saying they have the same eyes, blood, dna...everything...Obviously, Davey sees himself as beautiful, as the child. Why would he beg 4 4giveness ? I dunno, but maybe they entered into a fight, and that's why it would be silver and cold and silent...Also when he says : "Feel you hollow voice rushing, into me, as i'm longing to sing...so I will paint you in silver, I Will wrap you in cold, I will lift up your voice as I sink..." That's a metaphor explaining he cannot deal with his career (of singing) and his child...So it makes him mad and that's why he fights with himself and the kid.."Cold in life's throws, i'll fall asleep 4 u...Cold in life's throws, I only ask your turn..As they seep, into me..Oh my beautiful one.." It says the father created this baby and is sorry to have thrown him into this horrible life and he would "fall asleep" to be forgiven..I'm a weird person and if you don't get my interpretation, that's ok.

I think it is about him meeting god, but I think it goes a bit deeper than you're interpretation. So hers mine.
I came here by day, but I left here in darkness And found you, found you on the way.
-This is about a time davey was depressed, but then he found god.
And now, it is silver and silent, it is silver and cold you, in sombre resplendence, I hold your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one. Your sins into me As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer And I'll beg for forgiveness
-ok now god says to davey, "your sins into me, oh my beautiful on", because like talchix said, he is one of gods beautiful creatures. then daves replies to god; "your sins in to me? As a rapturous voice escapes I will tremble a prayer, and I'll beg for forgiveness. So basically god is telling davey to accept him, and he will take his sins away.
Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me As you're longing to sing So I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold. I will lift up your voices as I sink
-now I am not quite sure about some of this verse. I think god is just basically still telling davey that he will be free once he takes his sins...
Cold in life's throes, I'll fall asleep for you Cold in life's throes, I only ask you turn away Cold in life's throes, I'll fall asleep for you Cold in life's throes, I only ask you turn As they seep... into me, oh, my beautiful one, now.
-Here's the deep part of the song, the whole song is pretty deep, but this part is god telling davey to turn away, then god will fall asleep for him, and his sins will seep into him, and he will be free after that.

I believe this song isn't about meeting God at all, but more about a relationship, with somewhat of a twist within it. I think the entire song is about Davey meeting a girl whom has her own problems with sins, and obviously worries about going to hell or even dying. She may have killed someone from what I've gathered. Anyway, yes, her problems with sin are so bad, she confides in Davey an he basically prays all her sins unto him. Hence, the chorus. He begs forgiveness for the sins, he has invoked unto him. Then later we find out that the sins went unforgiven and he says "I fall asleep for you." Thus meaning, Davey probably died, invoking these sins. He says "I only ask you turn away, as they seep, into me, oh my beautiful one now" because he doesn't want her to regain the sins she had just lost, by trying to stop his death. It's basically him pleading with her, not to do what he did for her, because he wants her to live. Maybe this isn't what the song's about, but this is what I get out of it, other than it being about meeting God, which is another good interpretation.

All of your interpretations are great. Mine is a little summed up version of what the song means. I think it's about davey contemplating suicide. I know you aren't usually supposed to judge a song by it's video, but if you put both the lyrics and the video together...that's what I think it adds up to. And if this song was about him finding God then why in the video does he call up the rest of the band that is somewhere else ((jade, hunter, adam)) and they all rush to where davey is. It's not like davey says "hey guys, hurry get down here...I found God!" oooh! yeah.... I know I didn't say any of this very well, but I do believe that this song is about davey contemplating suicide...think about it. -Something else... about the chorus. Most people pray for forgiveness right before they commit suicide, that's what I think the chorus is about. Davey was asking God for forgiveness for all the things he has done...and when he sings "your sins into me, oh my beautiful one" that's what God replied. -- That's what I think it means...mmkay?

For me, S&C is about an unhealthy addiction to something. He says "but I left here in darkness, and found you on the way". Meaning, life became bleak and melancholy, and he needed something to alleviate the pain. In the chorus, "your sins into me, oh my beautiful one" I think relates to the fact that he will do anything for this addiction, forsake everything for it, because to him, it's all worth it. "Light like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me as you're longing to sing" The light signifying hope in this coping mechanism, but after, it just leaves him feeling completely empty. "I will lift up your voice as I sink" meaning even though he's sinking further down into darkness, we will continue to hold on to this thing, whatever it is. I think these addictions, if you call them that, could be anything from drugs, alcohol, self-mutilation, unhealthy relationships, etc., anything that provides temporary alleviation from life, but in the end leaves you feeling desolate. Even the contemplation of suicide, wanting to find something that will help you escape from this @#%$-filled world.
