Now the World

Summer, I painted a scene that lit the stars for me. Said, "I can erase it for you dear." That summer created those words that came to life in three. They were denied by you. Summer I laid down below a glitter-adorned night and silently sparkled my own way. Summer I laid down by you and shared my frail light. You gave the dark to me. I looked inside to find the one I sent away. I nearly froze when I stepped inside to find the flowers turned to gray. I closed my eyes and kissed them one last time. (I wanted this excoriation. I thrive on this self mutilation.) in backround) Summer, a morning so pale, alone when they found me. As I remained sleeping I heard them say, "This summer created a boy of abject misery." He was designed by you. I looked inside to find the one I sent away. I nearly froze when I stepped inside to find the flowers turned to gray. I closed my eyes and kissed them one last time. (I wanted this excoriation. I thrive on this self mutilation.) in backround) So like a lost child I will hide, a nd like a lost lie I will find a way to return to the one who made me. Cover your eyes and we'll dance together. Will you cry for me? Will you cry for me, or will you cry with me? I've been a lonely one. I've had this whole world drained from me. Am I the only one? I've had this world drained from me.Summer, I painted a scene that lit the stars for me. Said "I can erase it for you dear."

As stated, this song too, is about death. But, for a change, it's not about Davey Havok's death, but then again, in the end or even throughout the song, it might be. Time for a description. The song begins with the lyrics "That summer I painted, a scene, that lit the stars for me, said "I can erase it, for you dear." " Summer, is a season, and thus making no sense in this song, so maybe hes refering to a girl named Summer or maybe he's saying somewhere. I'll assume Summer now, and continue. He is talking to a female aparently, about possibly living. Hence lighting the stars for him, bringing him life. He then goes to say he can erase life, for the girl in which he is talking to. At this point i'm unclear as to whoms life he is talking about, his or hers. Next he says "That summer created, those words, that came to life in three, they were denied by you." Now I know he's talking about the season of Summer. He is recalling an event that happened durring the Summer. What he's saying above is that during the summer he learned to say "I love you" to a girl, yet she denied his words, and rejected him by becoming fatally ill. Next it says "Summer I laid down below a glitter adorned night, and silently sparkled, my own way. Summer I laid down by you, and shared my frail light, you gave the dark to me." He is now saying that he is trying to move on with his rejection and get on with life. Then he confronts the girl again, and tries once again, in a desperate attempt to gain her love, but she yet again rejects him due to her sickness. Now the chorus "I looked inside, to find, the one I sent away. I nearly froze, when I stepped inside to find, the flowers turned to Grey. I closed my eyes, and kissed them one last time." This is now recalling the mortal sickness of the girl he gave up upon, in which suprizes Davey alot as he didn't know why he was rejected, and now knows it's because of her sickness, so he closes his eyes, and kisses her for the final time. Now the next verse says "Summer a morning, so pale, alone when they found me. As I remained sleeping, I heard them say. This summer created a boy, of abajact misery, he was designed by you." This explains people finding Davey in his current state of misery and them saying God created Davey, the boy of abject misery. Then saying, that Davey was designed by him. Then the chorus hits again, with the same meaning. Now a slight verse hits when Davey says "So like a lost child, I will hide. And like a lost lie, I will find, find a way to return to the ones who made me, cover your eyes and we'll die together." This part states that Davey is trying to hide from the truth, but is lying to himself in the process, and now knows she will die. So he clearly states he wants to die with her. Now it says "Will you fly for me, will you fly for me, or will you cry with me? I've been a lonely one, I've had this whole world, drained from me. Am I the only one, I've had this whole world, drained from me." He is now stating his grief and pain over what now seems to be her death. He asks her spirit as it departs to heaven if it will fly to Heaven for him, or cry with him for her death and his suffering. He then clearly states he has had all his emotions (the whole world) drained from him. He then asks if he's the only one whom cares about her death by asking if he is the only one, then states again, that all his emotion has deminished. Now finally, the song is coming to a close, and the begining words are said yet again. "Summer I painted, a scene, that lit the stars for me. Said "I can erase it, for you dear." " At this point, he kills himself, and erases his own life, over her death. Thus, they die together.

This song has 2 versions to it, both with slightly different lyrics. The newest version is found on the UK version of "Sing the Sorrow" and instead of saying "I wanted this excoriation, I thrive on this self mutilation" in the background during the chorus, it says "I wanted to look several ways, I remain and self mutilate." Either way, the song meaning remains the same.

I think this song is about losing a loved one, due to a sickness. Flowers represent people of great importance in AFI songs, especially in Sing the Sorrow (The Great Disappointment) and in Now the World, it's no expection. The flowers turning to Grey represent the girl whom is dying. It's about meeting a female in the Summer time, he paints himself a perfect world, and tells her that he can erase it for her. Thus he can kill himself because of her death, erasing his perfect little world. He created 3 words (I love you) that were denied by her, because she fell sick and is dying. He then lays down below the glitter adorned night, and sparkles his own way. It basically says he gives up on her, and gets on with life. Now he lays down by her and shares his frail light, and she gives the dark to him. This says he tried to make things work, but he ends up being denied because he's given the dark with her death. Now the chorus sets in, he looks inside to find the one he sent away. This notes he sees her, the one he sent away, gave up upon. Then he nearly froze when he went inside to see her nearing death. Hence flowers turning to Grey. He closes his eyes, and kisses her one last time. Now a new verse hits, and he says that during the morning of Summer he too fell sick and died, and hears people saying "that summer created a boy, of abject misery, he was designed by you." This is the Angels themselves talking to God. Then the chorus sets in again with the same meaning. Now it says so like a lost child he will hide, and like a lost lie he will find a way to return to the one whom made him. This means that he will deny her death only for so long, then eventually, kill himself. Then it says cover your eyes and we'll die together. This explains the last bit of meaning I explained, and or proves it. Now it says will you cry for me, or will you cry with me? This is her talking to him, about her death. She is asking if he will mourn for her, or mourn with her, as they die together. In the background he says i've been a lonely one, ive had the whole world drained for me, am I the only one? I've had the world, drained from me. Then the beginning verse in the song hits, that summer created, a scene, that lit the stars for me, said, "I can erase it for you dear." He basically states that he can simply destroy his perfect world to die with her. Now as per the differences in the background lyrics during the chorus. "I wanted this excoriation, I thrive on this self mutilation" that means that he wanted to fall apart, and thrived on hurting himself to fix her loss. "I wanted to look several ways, I remain and self mutilate" this is..kind of a cleaned up version of that. He wanted to look different ways when he looked inside to see her dying, and only for now, he remains living, self mutilating himself.

Woah...that was more than I thought I was going to put, but ok, I just explained what I think "Now the World" means, it's a song about Davey committing suicide over the death of a significant other.
