Girl's Not Grey

I'll lay me down tonight. Much further down. Swim in the calm tonight. This art does drown. (What follows) me as the whitest lace of light. (Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued? What follows has lead me to this place. Where I belong, with all erased. All insects sing tonight. The coldest sound. I'd send God's grace tonight. Could it be found? (What follows) me as the whitest lace of light. (Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued? What follows has lead me to this place. Where I belong, with all erased. I'll lay me down tonight. Much further down. Watch stars go out tonight. On sinking ground. I'll lay me down, I'll lay me down. (What follows) me as the whitest lace of light. (Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued? What follows has lead me to this place. Where I belong, with all erased. What follows will swallow whole. What follows will swallow whole.

Yet another song about death, if you really think about it. This song is about being followed by death, this is proven in the lyrics of the chorus. "What follows me as the whitest lace of light, just begs to be embrued. What follows has led me to this place, where I belong with all erased." It's basically saying that death follows each individual throughout ones life up untill it swallows them whole, and leads them to their afterlife, as their bodys existance becomes erased.

-Ok, just like many afi songs, at first, davey feels depressed. So basically when he says he will lay much further down, he hopes to fall asleep tonight and never wake up.

What follows me as the whitest lace of light, will swallow whole, just begs to be imbrued?

-Now what he says "what fallows me as the whitest lace of light", I think what that mite mean is that something that seemed like his only light, like maybe a friend or something, ended up "swallowing him whole".

All insects sing tonight, the coldest sound.

-I am not quit sure about this line...and finally the last line

I'd send Gods grace tonight, Could it be found?

-Now he is just saying he doesn't fell like gods grace can be found tonight.

This song, I think specifically is about death following you until the point of which it is inevitable and happens. I get this out of the chorus "What follows, me as the whitest lace of light, will swallow hole, just begs to be imbrued. What follows, has led me to this place, where I belong with all the rest." It's basically saying that what follows as the whitest lace of light is death, and it swallows your soul whole upon dying. As per imbrued, it just basically means fed or soaked in blood. What follows, has led me to this place where I belong with all the rest. It means death has followed him to the point of meeting his eternal fate and judgement, like all the rest of humanity do. The verses also go with my guess on the song's meaning. "I lay me down tonight, much further down." This means he's surpassing sleep, he's being buried down in the ground. "Swim in the calm tonight, this art does drown." Human beings are considered somewhat works of art, so he's comparing himself to art, and saying he's going to drown, or perish. And swimming in the calm, will cause him to drown in a calm and deathlike state. "I'll lay me down tonight, much further down, watch stars go out tonight, on sinking ground." Once again, another reference to Davey going to kill himself by drowning. So that's my interpretation, death following Davey until the point in which he reaches Heaven.
